Amu Hinamori è una studentessa delle medie riservata e scontrosa con i compagni, ma i suoi modi sono in realtà dovuti solamente a una forte timidezza. Una sera, mentre si angustia per il suo brutto carattere, la ragazza si addormenta, e la mattina successiva trova nel suo letto tre uova colorate: si tratta di Uova del Cuore, e da queste nasceranno gli Shugo Chara, piccoli guardiani delle emozioni che incarnano le diverse personalità che Amu potrebbe e vorrebbe avere! Le creaturine uscite dalle uova magiche hanno il potere di trasformare all’istante la sua indole, e la cosa darà vita a una serie di situazioni a dir poco imbarazzanti!
