Mit der schlimmen Vorstellung, dass Dämonen unter uns weilen, bekommen es die Bewohner von Tokyo mit der Angst zu tun. Als immer mehr, einer nach dem anderen, auf der Straße zum Monster wird, bekommen die Menschen den Verdacht, dass vielleicht doch jemand unter ihnen ein maskierter Dämon in Menschenkleidung ist. Mit steigender Spannung schlägt die Tragödie plötzlich zu - Akira findet in seinem Unterbewusstsein den Dämonen und kann ihn nicht zurückhalten. Der Dämon bricht aus seinem Körper aus und richtet Chaos und Zerstörung an.
