Kenji Hatano wollte eigentlich ein Baseball Superstar werden, aber letztendlich gefiel es ihm nicht, dass der Fehler eines Spielers das ganze Team verletzen kann. Nachdem sein Schuldirektor ihm ein Kyotei Rennen zeigt und er eine besondere Wende, den Monkey Turn sieht, beschließt er dies auch einmal zu versuchen. Nachdem sein Versuch eines Monkey Turns misslingt und er kentert, beschließt er ein professioneller Kyoteifahrer zu werden. Zwei Jahre später hat er seinen Abschluss von der Yamato Training School und verspricht Sumi Ubukata, dass er innerhalb von drei Jahren die Nummer 1 in Japan werden wird.
