Das Japan im 19. Jahrhundert wird von Monstern namens Youjin heimgesucht und die junge Hyou ist eine der wenigen, die sie bekämpft. Anscheinend konzentrieren sich die Monster auf das Gebiet rund um die Stadt Hakodate und dort ist es auch, wo Hyou auf die geheimnisvolle Kriegerin Himegami trifft. Von da an kreuzen sich ihre Wege immer wieder, denn auch Himegami bekämpft die Youjin, die offenbar alles andere als zufällig gerade in Hakodate aktiv sind. Anscheinend haben die ausländischen Großmächte etwas mit ihnen zu tun.
