Die fünfzehnjährige Butterfly arbeitet als Geisha im Hanano Okiya. Wenn sie mal frei hat, besucht sie am liebsten ihren Kindheitsfreund Chinatsu Fukazawa, der sehr nett zu ihr ist. Er ist ein Tattookünstler, der Butterfly zwar nie tätowieren will, ihr aber bei ihren Besuchen immer Schmetterlinge auf den Arm malt, da sie diese sehr mag. Als sie ihn eines Tages besuchen kommt, sieht sie eine nackte Frau in seiner Wohnung. Kurze Zeit später bekommt sie einen sehr reichen Kunden, der sie gerne kaufen würde. Der Gedanke daran, dass sie von ihrem Freund getrennt werden soll, schmerzt sie sehr, aber ist wirklich schon alles zu spät?
