Die Geschichte spielt im 17. Jahrhundert in Frankreich. Belmondo ist der Sohn eines adeligen Vaters, doch da seine Mutter ein verstorbene Hexe ist, besitzt er keinen so hohen Rang in der Gesellschaft. Geboren wurde er im Keller eines Klosters und musste dort auch seine Kindheit verbringen. Nachdem er ein bestimmtes Alter erreichte, gab ihm sein Vater den Posten als Direktor eines unterirdischen Gefängnis, wo er auch das Recht hat Folter anzuwenden, sollte sich ein Insasse weigern. Sollte auch die Folter nichts bringen, kann Belmondo auch noch von seiner Fähigkeit in die Gedanken eines Menschen zu sehen Gebrauch machen. Belmonde le VisiteuR erzählt die Geschichte dieses jungen Mannes der noch so einige Rätsel zu lüften hat was seine Familie und das Gefängnis betrifft.
