Synopsis
Protagonist Satoru Fujinuma possesses a supernatural ability which he calls “Revival.” This power causes him to time travel and sends him right back to before the occurance of certain life-threatening events, enabling him to prevent these tragedies.
When his life is being turned upside-down after having been discharged from the hospital, Satoru’s ability triggers and he is sent back to when he was an elementary school student—to around the time when his classmate Kayo went missing. Now it is on him to solve the mystery surrounding a series of kidnappings and to protect his childhood friends.

It's not so much a whodunit, as that becomes fairly obvious early on, but more of a character drama around the peculiar situation. It's a captivating ride that is actually brought to conclusion in this one season.
Been putting this off for nearly a decade, since it seemed a depressing watch, which to be fair it is. But when in the mood to stomach it's a very worthwhile experience. I also went and read the manga, which supposedly had more content and a different ending. While true, it's the same basic gist. Only even more depressing, while none of the character's fates are different.
