Case Closed: The Last Wizard of the Century (1999)

When young Amy at school raves about meeting the Phantom Thief Kid in person, Conan vows once again to catch him – not realising that the next opportunity will soon be within his grasp.

The Kaitou Kid always announces his next heist, as he is doing now: in just a few days, he intends to steal the Memories Egg. Once the property of a Russian czar, it has now been discovered in a Suzuki family storeroom and is to be exhibited in an Osaka gallery. Naturally, there is a great deal of excitement, and countermeasures have to be taken. So, at the request of the head of the Suzuki family, Detective Moore travels to Osaka – the possible future scene of the crime – accompanied by his daughter Rachel and, of course, Conan.

Despite all countermeasures and tricks, Phantom Thief Kid appears and manages to steal the egg, although he is shot in the right eye as he flees. After falling into the waters of the bay, only the egg remains. The incident is not isolated, as other people have been shot in the right eye. While the police suspect a known killer, Conan believes there is more going on here than just art theft. It is now up to him to uncover the mystery surrounding the egg and find the culprit – and, of course, the missing Phantom Thief Kid.

Als die junge Ayumi in der Schule davon schwärmt, Kaitou Kid in Person getroffen zu haben, schwört sich Conan erneut, ihn eines Tages zu erwischen – nicht ahnend, dass die nächste Gelegenheit bald zum Greifen nahe ist.

Besagter Kaitou Kid zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass er stets seinen nächsten Raub ankündigt, so wie auch jetzt; schon in wenigen Tagen beabsichtigt er, das Memories Egg zu stehlen. Einst im Besitz eines russischen Zars, wurde es nun in einem Lagerhaus der Suzuki-Familie entdeckt und soll in einer Galerie in Osaka ausgestellt werden. Natürlich ist die Aufregung groß, Gegenmaßnahmen sollen ergriffen werden. So kommt es, dass auf Wunsch des Oberhaupts der Suzukis Detektiv Mori nach Osaka – zum womöglich künftigen Tatort – reist, begleitet von seiner Tochter Ran und natürlich auch Conan.

Allen Gegenmaßnahmen und Tricks zum Trotz erscheint Kaitou Kid, vermag das Ei zu stehlen – und wird bei seiner Flucht von einem Schuss ins rechte Auge getroffen. Nachdem er in die Fluten der Bucht gestürzt ist, bleibt nur das Ei zurück. Der Vorfall bleibt kein Einzelfall, weitere Personen werden mit einem Schuss ins rechte Auge getötet. Während die Polizei einen bekannten Killer verdächtigt, glaubt Conan, es gehe hier um mehr als nur Kunstraub. Es ist jetzt an ihm, das Mysterium rund um das Ei aufzudecken und den Täter zu finden – und natürlich den verschwundenen Kaitou Kid.
