Synopsis

“Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files: Rail Zeppelin - Grace Note: A Grave Keeper, a Cat, and a Mage” is an anime special set long after the events of the Fourth Grail War, offering an introduction to the 12-part adaptation of the light novel.

The anime offers a glimpse into the daily life of Waver Velvet, who took the title “Lord El-Melloi II” after the events of 1994 and is now a professor at Clock Tower, respected by his students. There, he not only took over the title of his old mentor but also his position as chairman of the Department of Modern Magical Studies. However, occasionally, things in a teacher’s everyday life can go wrong, especially when even careless swearing can trigger counter-magic and ruin your day! Luckily, Waver has his three most loyal pupils – Svin, the ever-euphoric Flat and the mysterious Gray – by his side, who always support him. Gray’s resemblance to Artoria, however, always brings back bad memories of the Fourth Grail War and his own helplessness when Iskander rode to his death, so he asks her to hide her face under a hood.

But in an academy full of mages, of course, there is no ideal world – intrigues and power struggles are the order of the day, and Waver cannot escape them forever. With a lordly title that he only holds temporarily until his adopted sister Reines comes of age, he is often the target of ridicule, but with the appearance of a black cat, it becomes clear that it is not only ridicule that is directed at him but that many a mage even seeks his life …
