Description

Sword Art Online: The Movie - Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night” adapts the light novel “Sword Art Online: Progressive” by author Reki Kawahara and retells the beginning of the story surrounding Asuna and Kirito’s arrival in the VR MMORPG “Sword Art Online”. The focus is on Asuna’s backstory and her entry into the virtual world.

In 2022, “Sword Art Online”, the world’s first full-dive online role-playing game, launches, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in the virtual world through the use of the NerveGear, a high-tech headset. Asuna has led a relatively sheltered life under her mother’s supervision until then and has therefore had little exposure to video games, but is now persuaded by her friend Misumi “Mito” Tozawa to try out SAO with her. Together with the beta tester Kirito, they are among the 10,000 players caught in the game. Shortly after the adventure begins, all players are told by Kayaba Akihiko, the chief developer himself, that they cannot log out of the game and that death in the game would also result in death in the real world. The only chance to leave the game alive is to fight your way through the 100 levels of the floating castle Aincrad and complete the game.

But Asuna can’t cope with the game at all, though at the beginning, a classmate supports her. Soon, however, she has to fight her way through the world and the game of death as a single player. Kirito, too, struggles alone through the lowest levels of the virtual world until one day, their paths cross …

  • Kirito

I'd rather trust and regret, than doubt and regret.

  • Kirito

Rather than leaving someone to die, I'd much rather die together with them.

  • Kirito

There's no meaningful difference between a real and a virtual world. It's pointless to ask anyone who they really are. All you can do is accept and believe in them, because whoever they are in your mind, is their true identity.

  • Kirito

If you married someone, that means you love every side of your significant other that you already know. So if you find a new side after to love, doesn't that mean you'll love your partner even more?

  • Kirito

Everybody can fight. It's just a choice of whether you should.
