Aharen-san wa Hakarenai (2022)

Raidou-kun’s new bench neighbour, Aharen-san, has not been in contact with her once since they started sitting next to each other at school. This changes, however, when Raidou picks up her dropped eraser during a lesson. Shortly afterwards, when she has forgotten her textbook and he helps her out, she suddenly starts crowding him and wants to have lunch with him, and later go home together (not without stopping by the arcade and karaoke first), and all of this happens with a physical distance of no more than 30 centimetres.

Raidou-kun, who is not used to this at all, doesn’t know how to deal with it at first. But it gets even more incomprehensible to him when Aharen-san demonstratively walks past him the next morning and sits down extra far away from him – only to hang in the crook of his arm again a short time later when he helps her out another time. Aharen-san eventually tells him that she has always had problems in judging the necessary interpersonal distances and was therefore avoided in the past. Raidou-kun was now the first classmate in a long time who would have accepted her as she is again. But all this does not change the fact that Aharen’s behaviour remains absolutely unfathomable …

Mit Raidou-kuns neuer Banknachbarin namens Aharen-san ist noch kein einziges Mal ein Kontakt zustande gekommen, seit die beiden in der Schule nebeneinander sitzen. Das ändert sich jedoch, als Raidou in einer Unterrichtsstunde ihren heruntergefallenen Radiergummi aufhebt. Kurz darauf, als sie ihr Lehrbuch vergessen hat und er ihr hilft, hängt sie ihm plötzlich auf der Pelle und will mit ihm zusammen Mittag essen, später zusammen nach Hause gehen (nicht ohne vorher in der Spielhalle und beim Karaoke vorbeizuschauen), und all das geschieht mit einem körperlichen Abstand von maximal 30 Zentimetern.

Raidou-kun, der an so was überhaupt nicht gewöhnt ist, weiß erst einmal gar nicht, wie er damit umgehen soll. Es ist ihm aber noch unbegreiflicher, dass Aharen-san am nächsten Morgen demonstrativ an ihm vorbeigeht und sich extra weit von ihm entfernt hinsetzt – nur um kurze Zeit später wieder in seiner Armbeuge zu hängen, als er ihr ein weiteres Mal aushilft. Aharen-san erzählt ihm schließlich, dass sie schon immer Probleme beim Einschätzen der notwendigen, zwischenpersönlichen Abstände hatte und deshalb früher gemieden wurde. Raidou-kun war nun der erste Mitschüler seit längerer Zeit, der sie wieder so akzeptiert hätte, wie sie ist. All das ändert aber nichts daran, dass Aharens Verhalten weiterhin absolut unergründlich bleibt …
