Synopsis
Kotarou, a little four-year-old boy, has hardly moved into his new flat when he is already standing in front of the door of his neighbour Shin Karino, a moderately successful mangaka, and presents him with a box of handkerchiefs as a welcome gift. As the conversation continues, it turns out that Kotarou actually lives all by himself, behaves quite maturely for his age and is quite independent in general. He has an alert mind, a sharp talent for deduction and uses an old-fashioned way of expressing himself, which he adopted from the hero of his favourite anime “Tonosaman”.
Used to standing on his own two feet from the beginning, Kotarou always remains a child, however, and with his quite idiosyncratic charm he manages to make the acquaintance of a whole series of adults who, of course, don’t miss the opportunity to support him in all sorts of everyday things. Even if it’s only at the kindergarten, where Kotarou’s room neighbours are soon recognised as substitute parents. So it gradually becomes clear what his biological parents are all about and how he got into this situation. Kotarou repeatedly asks his supporters questions – childish but not naïve questions with which he leaves his adult friends baffled or, alternatively, drives them to sheer despair. Occasionally he also interferes without being asked, sometimes taking their affairs into his own hands. So that in the end it cannot be said with certainty who exactly is supporting whom …
