Amaim: Warrior at the Borderline (Part 2) (2022)

During the occupation of Japan by other nations as a consequence of the Boundary War, the orphan boy Amou Shiiba discovered a left-behind AMAIM named Kenbu and later, after initial hesitation, joined the resistance group Yatagarasu in order not to have to watch the oppressors’ outrages without doing anything. But they were not the only problem: an unknown AMAIM, usually called Ghost, proved to be not only a strong opponent but also frighteningly adaptive. After a dramatic battle, Yatagarasu emerged victorious, but Amou has since disappeared.

Eight months later, the North American occupiers had made great strides in AI development and, because of the advantage, were able to conquer more and more territory, to the chagrin of the native population. Yatagarasu continues to resist fiercely, but because they are running out of supplies, they are almost defeated by the North Americans – until Amou and Kenbu reappear. Not only have the political conditions changed, but Amou also seems colder and more distant than before and is unwilling to share his recent experiences.

The members of Yatagarasu, however, have more to worry about than the somewhat shocking behaviour of the returned Amou: while they still have to fight against the formidable occupying force, the North Americans are working on a new AMAIM, which is supposed to contain Ghost’s AI, of all things.

Während der Besetzung Japans durch andere Nationen als Konsequenz des Boundary Wars entdeckte der Waisenjunge Amou Shiiba einen zurückgelassenen AMAIM namens Kenbu und schloss sich später, nach initialem Zögern, der Widerstandsgruppe Yatagarasu an, um nicht tatenlos den Schandtaten der Unterdrücker zusehen zu müssen. Doch die waren nicht das einzige Problem: Ein unbekannter AMAIM, zumeist einfach Ghost genannt, erwies sich nicht nur als starker Gegner, sondern auch als erschreckend lernfähig. Nach einem dramatischen Kampf ging Yatagarasu als Sieger hervor, doch Amou ist seitdem verschwunden.

Acht Monate später haben die nordamerikanische Besatzer haben große Fortschritte bei der KI-Entwicklung gemacht und können aufgrund des Vorteils immer mehr Gebiete erobern – zum Leidwesen der einheimischen Bevölkerung. Yatagarasu leistet weiterhin erbittert Widerstand, doch weil ihnen die Vorräte ausgehen, werden sie um ein Haar von den Nordamerikanern bezwungen – bis Amou samt Kenbu wieder auftaucht. Doch nicht nur die politischen Verhältnisse haben sich verändert, auch Amou wirkt kälter und distanzierter als zuvor und ist nicht gewillt, seine jüngsten Erlebnisse mitzuteilen.

Die Mitglieder von Yatagarasu haben jedoch mehr Sorgen als das teilweise schockierende Verhalten des heimgekehrten Amou: Während sie weiterhin gegen die gewaltige Besatzungsmacht ankämpfen müssen, wird bei den Nordamerikanern an einem neuen AMAIM gearbeitet, der ausgerechnet die KI von Ghost enthalten soll.
