Synopsis

A good four light years away from Earth, in the Alpha Centauri system, there is a highly advanced, intelligent species called the Trisolarians, whose technology far exceeds that of humanity. Some time ago, a group of humans transmitted a proposal to colonise Earth to the Trisolarians using the sun. The group, called ETO, has been sabotaging Earth ever since, awaiting the arrival of the Trisolarian fleet, which has set off directly and is expected some 400 years in the future.

In the meantime, humanity knows it only has a limited amount of time to prepare for the invasion. In addition, measurements at particle accelerators in the Lagrange points of the Earth’s orbit are yielding dubious results, which raises the question of whether the Trisolarians can already influence the physics in the solar system. If so, they could cripple all of humanity’s research and prevent the development of a serious defence by humans.

Luo Ji, a professor by trade, is a largely unknown sociologist and astronomer who teaches at a university and who actually has nothing more to do with global events. His circumstances change very suddenly, however, and he suddenly finds himself in the middle of events over which he has not the slightest influence. However, what develops from this, at first against his will, could decisively influence the course of events …
