The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse (2023)

Percival lived alone with his grandfather Varghese on God’s Finger, a high plateau reaching above the clouds. There, the boy led a simple life. However, although he loved it, Percival secretly longed for adventure. On his sixteenth birthday, of all days, this wish is to be fulfilled, and in the most gruesome way: Varghese was once a Holy Knight in Camelot, but when his son Ironside, of all people, committed a grave treason, Varghese left the kingdom, took his young grandson with him and raised him alone. Now Ironside appears before the two and fatally wounds them both because of a prophecy about the Four Knights of the Apocalypse, who are to bring great disaster upon the kingdom.

Percival not only miraculously survives, but his wound heals inexplicably. After initial hesitation, he follows his dying father’s request and sets off for Britannia. He soon realises that he has little idea of the big world, and even though his meeting with a group of circus artists may be pleasant, it catapults him into the middle of the action: He makes the acquaintance of the Holy Knight Pellegarde, who soon develops great interest in the boy – and rightly so, for Percival not only possesses mystical powers but also seems to be an elementary part of the prophecy.

Percival wohnte mit seinem Großvater Varghese allein auf God’s Finger, einem Hochplateau, das bis über die Wolken reicht. Dort führte der Knabe ein simples Leben, doch obwohl er es liebte, sehnte sich Percival doch heimlich nach Abenteuern. Ausgerechnet an seinem sechzehnten Geburtstag soll sich dieser Wunsch erfüllen, und zwar auf grausigste Art: Varghese war einst ein Heiliger Ritter in Camelot, aber als ausgerechnet sein Sohn Ironside einen schweren Verrat beging, verließ Varghese das Königreich, nahm seinen jungen Enkel mit und zog ihn allein auf. Nun erscheint Ironside vor den beiden und verletzt beide tödlich aufgrund einer Prophezeiung über die vier Apokalyptischen Ritter, die großes Unheil über das Königreich bringen sollen.

Percival überlebt nicht nur wie durch ein Wunder, sein Wunde heilen auf unerklärliche Weise. Nach initialem Zögern folgt er der Bitte seines sterbenden Vaters und macht sich auf den Weg nach Britannia. Schnell merkt er, dass er von der großen Welt wenig Ahnung hat, und auch wenn sein Treffen mit einer Gruppe Zirkuskünstler sicher angenehm sein mag, katapultiert es ihn mitten ins Geschehen: Er macht Bekanntschaft mit dem Heiligen Ritter Pellegarde, der bald großes Interesse an dem Jungen entwickelt – und das zu Recht, denn Percival besitzt nicht nur wunderliche Kräfte, sondern scheint auch elementarer Bestandteil der Prophezeiung zu sein.
