Lupin the 3rd vs. Cat’s Eye (2023)

The Kisugi sisters Nami, Hitomi and Ai are, in fact, Cat’s Eye, a notorious trio of thieves who steal paintings of their missing father to discover his whereabouts. Now, they are after three paintings at once, which they believe hold the key to an unsolved mystery. But Arsène Lupin III and his allies are also after these paintings, and when both sides have each stolen one, many people – and, of course, Inspector Zenigata – become aware of this incident. Which of the two sides will obtain the last painting first? And what is the secret behind it?

“Lupin the 3rd vs. Cat’s Eye” is a crossover project to celebrate two occasions at once: on the one hand, the 50th anniversary of the anime “Lupin III”, and on the other, the 40th anniversary of the manga “Cat’s Eyes”. While some recent representatives of the “Lupin” franchise are set in modern times, this film is set in the eighties.

Die Kisugi-Schwestern Nami, Hitomi und Ai sind in Wahrheit das berüchtigte Diebestrio Cat’s Eye und stehlen Gemälde ihres vermissten Vaters, um seinen Standort zu ermitteln. Nun jagen sie gleich drei Gemälden auf einmal nach, denn die sollen der Schlüssel zu einem bislang ungelösten Rätsel sein. Doch auch Arsène Lupin III und seine Verbündeten sind diesen Bildern auf der Spur, und als beide Parteien je ein Bild ergaunert haben, werden eine Menge Leute – und natürlich auch Inspektor Zenigata – auf diesen Vorfall aufmerksam. Welche der zwei Seiten wird das letzte Bild zuerst erlangen? Und was verbirgt sich hinter dem Rätsel der Bilder?

»Lupin III. vs. Ein Supertrio: Cat’s Eye« ist ein Crossover-Projekt, mit dem gleich zwei Anlässe gefeiert werden sollen: einerseits das 50. Jubiläum des Animes »Lupin III«, andererseits das 40. Jubiläum des Mangas »Cat’s Eyes«. Während einige jüngere Vertreter des »Lupin«-Franchise bereits in der Neuzeit spielen, handelt dieser Film in den Achtzigern.
