Information

Synopsis

When his class is on a school trip, Yogiri Takatou is fast asleep on the school bus, and thus, he completely misses the nightmare unfolding around him. He and his comrades are transported to another world by Sion, the granddaughter of a great “sage”, where carnage immediately breaks out and a dragon approaches the scene. But he is unaware of all this and is only awakened by a fellow pupil after his teachers have died.

Some young people have suddenly acquired supernatural abilities in this strange world, and the mysterious lady responsible for their appearance explains to them in Yogiri’s absence that this world ruled by the sages needs new sages again, which is why the students have been chosen as candidates. The best of them are to prove themselves and rise to become the new rulers of this world. However, not everyone has been endowed with supernatural abilities, for not all of them are compatible, and since Yogiri missed this decisive moment, he now stands without a special gift.

The situation becomes an absolute test when he and a classmate, Tomochika, are left behind as bait for the approaching dragon. Reluctantly, Yogiri defends his helpless companion despite his lack of skills. In fact, however, he has obtained an ability – the power to bring about death with just a single thought.

First of all, if you usually enjoy Isekai anime and haven't watched this one, yet, and also haven't read the description, then don't continue on. Watch the anime instead. There's a fairly unique twist in the first couple of minutes that I am going to talk about, since everything is built upon that. If you don't usually enjoy Isekai anime I probably won't be able to convince you to give this a chance, either.

Therefore read ahead at your own peril!

The premise is par for the course. Japanese high school students end up in a fantasy world, get some cheat powers and have to fend for themselves. The unusual part isn't even that our protagonists are the odd ones out, since they don't get any cheat power. The unusual part is the male protagonist: Takatou Yogiri. He already got a cheat ability. Also, he probably isn't even human.

Takatou comes off as a little dull and is completely unfazed by pretty much everything going on around him. But there's a reason for this. He's not merely overpowered. He's essentially at the very peak of all the overpowered characters you might have come to know in anime. Or elsewhere for that matter. That is because Takatou can kill with a mere thought. (And that isn't even his final form!)

I was never sure if this story was an intentional parody of the genre or a sincere contribution. Could go either way. What I am sure about, however, is that watching a bored Yogiri as people that have beef with him keep dying is something I don't get tired of. Nor am I going to get tired of watching his power escalating while characters that are fleshed out enough to be protagonists of their own stories appear and die within less than a minute. That isn't to say that Takatou is especially bloodthirsty. He isn't. While others spend time testing out his ability, he is kinda trying to figure out how to not kill people.

An amusing subversion of the overpowered protagonist, reminiscent of One Punch Man, but in another world. Unlike One Punch Man, though, this title has one huge disappointment. The animation is awful. It not only feels cheap, but it also appears that nobody cared. You can make things charming even with a low budget, but for this anime you just have to deal with things being quite lackluster.

The music is forgettable, too, but at least it isn't annoying.
On a brighter side the seiyuu did a great job.

There's even a silver lining about the animation. It's not too noticeable while watching. I only saw how bad it really is while adding the characters to aniSearch's database. When watching while reading subtitles it's not distracting. Of course, now that you are cursed with this knowledge your mileage may vary.

This show was actually pretty refreshingly hilarious in how it subverts your expectations surrounding plot armor (for all characters except the MC) and tropes surrounding ceremonious deaths.

Also, it reminded me a lot of Death Note in how the "antagonists" try to reason around MC's ability to kill anybody by simply looking at them (or is that all?...)
