Ash travels the continent with his faithful Pikachu to make new friends. Im Jahr 1997 begann für Ash und Pikachu die Reise – und 26 Jahre später geht sie mit dieser Staffel zu Ende. Es soll die letzte Staffel sein, in der die beiden als Hauptcharaktere auftreten.

Ash zieht mit seinem treuen Pikachu durch den Kontinent, um neue Freunde zu finden. Alles verläuft wie gewohnt, wenn auch nicht reibungslos, da die vielen Pokémon, denen sie unterwegs begegnen, immer für die eine oder andere Überraschung gut sind. Auch dass Team Rocket abermals versucht, Ash sein geliebtes Pikachu wegzuschnappen und dabei scheitert, gehört bereits zum Alltag. Doch dann treffen Ash und Pikachu auf ein verletztes Pokémon, das in einen Fluss gestürzt ist. Es stellt sich als das Legendäre Pokémon Latias heraus.
