#1Doesn't do the source material justice.
This adaptation takes an entire episode for what should have been the first few minutes before the opening starts rolling and has no redeeming features to make up for it. The animation is subpar, the soundtrack forgettable and the weaknesses in the original story are magnified.
A better pacing in the original made it so that the naiveté in the writing only became apparent later on, but here everything is slowed down and we are constantly reminded how bad it is to have nobles and commoners. Most of the nobles are depicted as incompetent baboons, while most of the commoners are depicted as oppressed geniuses. None of the characters have any depths to them.
If the story had been moving faster and had put its focus on the personal growth of its characters instead it could have been great, as the best part of the source material was the protagonist mentoring his peers in the beginning.
