Description
A compilation of 10 minute episodes, each based on one of Japan’s children’s tales such as "Momotaro" or "The Moon Princess". Two 10-minute shorts were presented in each half hour episode.

»Es war einmal« erzählt abermals zehnminütige Geschichten aus japanischen Märchen und Sagen, wie zum Beispiel »Kobutori Jiisan« oder »Shita-kiri Suzume«. Darunter befinden sich auch Neufassungen der Geschichten des älteren Animes von 1975.

Mindestens eine der ersten Episoden wurde in Deutschland – zusammen mit mehreren Folgen der Vorgängerserie – im ZDF ausgestrahlt. Später folgten Wiederholungen auf PKS und Pro7.
