Synopsis

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Saint Thomas School of Fine Arts, located in the heart of London, was regarded as one of the most prestigious art academies in the country. Its doors are primarily opened to members of the aristocracy and the royal family; yet, from time to time, exceptionally gifted young people are granted the opportunity to study there on recommendation, including the young Japanese woman Lili Ichijouin.

For Lili, being accepted into this school marks her entry into a world she has long yearned for. At the same time, she is under immense pressure: her mother has given her six months to rise to the top of the school. If she fails, she is to return to Japan, marry, and take over the family business. But Lili is determined to shape her life and refuses to let this once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity slip away. Only one person seems to stand in her way: Kit Church, an eccentric young artist of remarkable talent – and with an equally remarkable knack for driving Lili to distraction from the very moment they first met.

Will Lili succeed in outshining her rival and rising to the top of the school – and might she discover something else entirely along the way?
