Description

The story begins with three adventurers – the mage Tieh, the young thief Lakushi and the swordsman Bois – wandering through a desert. One evening, they discover a gruesome crime scene: some foreign travellers have been tortured to death by unknown persons. When the group inspects this place, the only survivor of this torture, the girl Lifas, attacks them. She mistakes the three for the people who tortured her friends but quickly realises they are not the perpetrators, after all. Shortly before the girl dies of starvation, she tells the adventurers that they were searching for a legendary treasure and were attacked and tortured by cruel robbers.

Since they gave the girl some water against her thirst shortly before her death, the travellers urgently need fresh water so they do not die of dehydration themselves. By chance, they discover a nearby ruined city and set out to find water there. The three soon realise this ruined city is the legendary city of the dead, Azec Sistra. It is said that no one has ever returned alive from this city due to a curse. Scattered throughout the city are mummified dead people, who pursue the activities and duties of noble society in their rigour of mortis. A culture that perished long ago wanted to defy death through this elaborate and costly staging and, thus, give its dead eternal pleasure. The only way to escape the wrath of the spirits of the mummified dead is through extreme caution and reverence.

The band of robbers who tortured the foreign travellers to death have entered the city of the dead to rob the treasure of Azec Sistra. In doing so, they show no consideration for the dead, which incurs the wrath of the dead, who, of course, do not stop at the three friends …
