Dass man als Soldat einem eher dreckigen Geschäft nachgeht, das viel Blut und Morden beinhaltet, ist ja allgemein bekannt. Und dies hat sich auch nicht geändert, nachdem die Menschheit in die Tiefen des Alls vorgedrungen ist. Innerhalb des Militärs wurden die Methoden des Krieges soweit verfeinert und trainiert. Die großen Schlachten wurden minutiös studiert, Regeln und Prozeduren sind seit Jahrhunderten in Kraft. Und dann gibt da es noch einen Jungen namens Tylor. Im Grunde ist er ein Rätsel, denn Tylor hat eine Gabe, die bisher unentdeckt blieb. Er geht durchs Leben, umgeben von einer Selbstzufriedenheit, die einzigartig ist und so manchem den Nerv rauben kann. Wie dem auch sei, er ist wahrscheinlich der einzige Mensch, der die Erde retten kann!

Justy Tylor es un vago de mucho cuidado que tiene la suerte de formar parte del ejército por un extraordinario golpe de suerte. Tylor ve el cielo abierto antes esta posibilidad, pues tiene claro que con un puesto en las Fuerzas Interestelares podrá comer y beber todo lo que quiera, pegándose la gran vida.

Sin embargo, nada es tan sencillo. Tylor verá cómo asciende a capitán y se enfrenta a una tripulación que lo ve como lo que es: un trepa.
