Description
In “Mobile Police Patlabor: The Movie”, Tokyo is undergoing a remarkable transformation shortly before the new millennium. As part of the Babylon Project, artificial islands are being filled in, and old, dilapidated neighbourhoods are being torn down. This massive effort is being carried out by special worker robots called Labors. They are manufactured in a huge factory, the so-called Ark, which is located in the middle of the sea. Such robots are used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, among others, for which they take over patrol work and are therefore simply called “Patlabors”.
One day, numerous Labors begin to run amok for reasons that are initially inexplicable. Usually, Special Vehicles Section 2 would be responsible for stopping them, but only Division 2 is on duty; the military is not of help in this matter either due to their own problems. So it falls to the head of the division, Kiichi Gotou, and his colleagues, together with police officer Takahiro Matsui, to find out why these robots are going berserk. But time is short because behind this phenomenon is an elaborate plan in which an approaching typhoon is to play a devastating role …
