Früher war Zennosuke ein erfolgloser Dieb. Bei dem Versuch, einen Reisknödel zu klauen, stürzte er in einen Brunnen und starb. Der Glücksgott gab ihn jedoch noch eine Chance und schickte ihn ins Leben zurück. Allerdings gibt es dabei einen Haken: Auf seinem Kopf hat Zennosuke nun eine große Aufziehfeder. Fortan muss er als Zenmai Zamurai Gutes tun und nach jeder guten Tat wird der Mechanismus automatisch aufgezogen. Bleibt dieser irgendwann einmal stehen, dann ist es auch um den Zenmai Zamurai geschehen. So kämpft er nun mit seinem Spezialschwert gegen Schurken, indem er ihnen Reisknödel in den Mund schießt, die so gut schmecken, dass sie ihre Fehler bereuen.
