In the 23rd century, mankind has fled Earth and emigrated to the moon. The last outpost of civilization is the Lunar Republic of Eden, where the omnipresent Citizens Administration Council grants residents everything they need. But what do you do when you discover everything you believe is a lie?

A single photograph with an inscribed message found inside a rocket launched from Earth leads a group of young men to question the counsel ruling the seemingly utopian city. But what length will they go to discover the true meaning of Freedom?
Im Jahr 2041 baute die Menschheit ihre erste Raumkolonie auf dem Mond. Als eine Klimaveränderung die menschliche Zivilisation auf der Erde vernichtete, errichtete die Republik des Mondes eine Großstadt, die als Eden bekannt ist. Der Anime spielt 200 Jahre später im Jahr 2267 und im Mittelpunkt steht ein Junge namens Takeru. Seine Zeit verbringt er mit Rennen gegen die rivalisierenden Straßengruppen. Dabei ist Takeru ahnungslos, dass er im Begriff ist, den Ursprung Edens herauszufinden …

Anmerkung:
Freedom war der erste Anime, der in den USA auf HD-DVD erschien (noch vor dem ersten Anime auf Blu-ray). Im Verlauf des Formatkrieges wurde das Release nach Vol. 6 abgebrochen ‒ die letzte Folge erschien in den USA nur in einer Blu-ray-Box und später auf DVD.

Suite à une catastrophe causée par la chute d’une station spatiale sur Terre, la planète bleue est devenue inhabitable. Les seuls survivants ont terraformé la Lune et y ont bâti la cité utopique d’Eden, avec ses règles strictes. Après une course de moto qui s’est mal terminée, Takeru, un jeune habitant d’Eden, et ses deux amis, reçoivent pour sanction d’effectuer des missions de bénévolat. Au cours de l’une d’elles, Takeru va découvrir une photo provenant de la Terre. Persuadé qu’il y reste de la vie, il entreprend avec ses camarades de lever le voile sur ce mystère, bravant ainsi les interdictions de la cité d’Eden … Mais à quel prix ?
