Jack and the Beanstalk (1974)

Jack to Mame no Ki / ジャックと豆の木

Information

Synopsis

Jack and the Beanstalk” is about young Jack, who lives with his mother in a small house in the middle of the country. Because the two are destitute and their cow no longer gives milk, it is to be sold. When Jack drives the cow towards town, he meets a strange man and has the cow bought for a few lumpy, supposedly “magic” beans. Needless to say, his mother is not at all pleased, and while Jack becomes the target of her wrath, the beans fly out of the house in no uncertain terms. But who would have thought that these beans are actually magical? Only a little later, they have grown tendrils high into the clouds.

Jack and his dog Crosby are also visited by a clothed mouse called Mii, who persuades them both to climb up the tendrils. And what a surprise they get when high in the clouds, they arrive in the middle of a castle. The parents of Princess Margaret have disappeared without a trace. No wonder, she is beside herself and is supposedly looking forward to marrying Tulip, the monstrous son of the sinister Madam Noire. In the middle of it all are Jack and his dog, who soon find themselves in danger. But can they ever escape the place, and perhaps even save the princess from her fate?
