Description

It is the last year of the Second World War, and the population of Japan is visibly suffering the consequences of the conflict. Primary school student Nobuko has rescued a small hungry cat, but her parents don’t want a pet as they barely have enough to live on themselves. After secretly bringing the kitten into the house, being discovered and running away with it, Nobuko convinces her parents to let her keep the kitten. Nobuko and her brother call their new charge Kuro, catch him fish and play with him frequently. What they did not see coming, however, is how important Kuro will become for Nobuko’s survival …

Es ist das letzte Jahr des Zweiten Weltkriegs und die Bevölkerung von Japan leidet zusehends an den Folgen des Konfliktes. Die Grundschülerin Nobuko hat eine kleine hungrige Katze gerettet, aber ihre Eltern wollen kein Haustier, da sie selbst kaum genug zum Leben haben. Nachdem sie das Kätzchen heimlich ins Haus gebracht hat, entdeckt wurde und mit dem Kätzchen weggelaufen ist, gelingt es Nobuko, ihre Eltern davon zu überzeugen, dass sie das Kätzchen behalten darf. Nobuko und ihr Bruder nennen ihren neuen Schützling Kuro, fangen ihm Fische und spielen häufig mit ihm. Was sie aber nicht haben kommen sehen, ist, wie wichtig Kuro noch für das Überleben von Nobuko werden wird …
