Description

Japan in the 1960s: 16-year-old Umi Matsuzaki lives together with her younger siblings Sora and Riku as well as her grandmother Hana and three other women in a house by the sea because her father, a former ship captain, lost his life in the Korean War and her mother is currently working as a doctor in America. To this day, Umi raises two signal flags every day in memory of her father. One day, a poem about her and her flags is published in the school newspaper, and soon after, she meets her classmate and author of the poem, Shun Kazama, who is about to perform a dare to demonstrate against the demolition of the school’s clubhouse. Despite her first negative impression of Shun, Umi soon joins him and begins to fight for the preservation of the old building as well.
