Sword of the Stranger (2007)

Mukoh Hadan is set during the Sengoku era. The boy Kotarou travels with his dog through the turmoil of the Japanese Middle Ages, but not necessarily under normal circumstances, as he is pursued by the Mings. One day he meets a mysterious samurai who introduces himself as Nanashi (the Nameless One). He used to fight in the many wars that marked the Sengoku period, but he has grown weary of war and joins Kotarou for the time being after he rescues him from a Ming ambush. Their destination is a temple where Kotarou is to meet a monk who would help him further. But their journey will not be easy, for they are pursued by an entire army and especially by Raou, a fanatical swordsman who is only looking for one thing: an equal opponent in swordplay. But why is Kotarou being pursued at all? What are the Ming’s motives, and is Nanashi perhaps the fighter Raou has been looking for all his life?

Der Junge Kotarou reist mit seinem Hund durch die Wirren des japanischen Mittelalters, allerdings nicht unbedingt unter normalen Umständen, da er von den Mings verfolgt wird. Eines Tages trifft er auf einen mysteriösen Samurai, der sich mit Nanashi (der Namenlose) vorstellt. Früher kämpfte er in den vielen Kriegen, die die Sengoku-Zeit prägten, doch ist er inzwischen kriegsmüde geworden und schließt sich vorerst Kotarou an, nachdem er ihn aus einem Hinterhalt der Mings rettete. Ihr Ziel ist ein Tempel, wo Kotarou einen Mönch treffen soll, der ihm weiter helfen würde. Doch ihre Reise wird nicht leicht, denn sie werden von einer ganzen Armee und insbesondere von Raou, einem fanatischen Schwertkämpfer, verfolgt, der nur eines sucht: einen ebenbürtigen Gegner im Schwertkampf. Doch warum wird Kotarou überhaupt verfolgt? Was sind die Motive der Ming und ist Nanashi vielleicht der Kämpfer, nachdem Raou sein Leben lang gesucht hat?
