Glass no Usagi (2005)

At the time of the Second World War, Toshiko lives in Tokyo with her family. Japan is about to surrender and people are suffering from the lack of food and other materials. On March 10th, 1945, she loses her mother and two younger sisters in a bombing raid in Tokyo. From the rubble, she finds a glass rabbit whose shape had been altered by the fire, illustrating the horrors of war to her. While evacuating to the suburbs, her father is killed by the U.S. Army on the way to the train station. Now that she is alone, feeling lonely and desperate, there is no reason for the girl to stay alive. But although the loneliness and grief, she must stay alive, because otherwise there would be no one to visit her family at the grave.

Zur Zeit des Zweiten Weltkriegs lebt Toshiko in Tokio mit ihrer Familie. Japan steht kurz vor der Kapitulation und die Menschen leiden unter den Mangel an Lebensmitteln und anderer Materialien. Am 10. März 1945 verliert sie ihre Mutter und ihre zwei jüngeren Schwestern bei einem Bombenangriff in Tokio. Aus den Trümmern bergt sie ein gläsernes Kaninchen, dessen Form sich durch den Brand verändert hatte und ihr die Schrecken des Krieges verdeutlicht. Bei der Evakuierung in die Vororte wird ihr Vater von der US-Armee auf den Weg zum Bahnhof getötet. Nun, da sie alleine ist, sich einsam und verzweifelt fühlt, gibt es für das Mädchen keinen Grund mehr am Leben zu bleiben. Doch obwohl die Einsamkeit und die Trauer, muss sie am Leben bleiben, denn sonst wäre niemand da, der ihre Familie am Grab besucht.
