DRAMAtical Murder (2014)

Aoba Seragaki lives a simple but enjoyable life with his grandmother on the small, green island of Midorijima. He works in the junk shop “Mediocrity” and spends a lot of time with his ALLMate puppy Ren. However, their peaceful life ends abruptly when the Toue Corporation, led by Tatsuo Toue, buys the island and builds “Platinum Jail”, a gigantic, luxurious and ultra-modern city that represents the prosperity and progress of the society. Poorer citizens of Midorijima, meanwhile, are banished to an old, deserted part of the island.

The virtual fighting game “Rhyme”, developed by the Toue Corporation, continues to gain popularity on the island. Many young people play it and form their own gangs in the game. Unlike his friends, Aoba neither participates in Rhyme nor belongs to a gang. Although he has no interest in playing Rhyme in general, circumstances soon force him to participate anyway, for more and more people suddenly begin to disappear. Reluctantly, Aoba is drawn further and further into the world of Rhyme as the sudden disappearances escalate, forcing him to uncover the truth behind the game and the dark secrets lurking in Platinum Jail.

Aoba Seragaki lebt gemeinsam mit seiner Großmutter ein einfaches, aber schönes Leben auf der kleinen, grünen Insel Midorijima. Er arbeitet in dem Ramschladen »Mediocrity« und verbringt viel Zeit mit seinem ALLMate-Hündchen Ren. Ihr friedliches Leben findet jedoch ein jähes Ende, als der Toue-Konzern unter der Leitung von Tatsuo Toue die Insel aufkauft und »Platinum Jail«, eine gigantische, luxuriöse und hochmoderne Stadt, die den Wohlstand und Fortschritt der Gesellschaft darstellt, auf ihr errichtet. Ärmere Bürger Midorijimas werden unterdessen in eine alte, verwaiste Inselhälfte verbannt.

Das virtuelle Kampfspiel »Rhyme«, entwickelt vom Toue-Konzern, gewinnt immer weiter an Beliebtheit auf der Insel. Viele Jugendliche spielen es und gründen eigene Banden im Spiel. Anders als seine Freunde nimmt Aoba weder an Rhyme teil noch gehört er einer Gang an. Obwohl er generell kein Interesse daran hat, Rhyme zu spielen, zwingen ihn die Umstände bald, dennoch daran teilzunehmen. Denn immer mehr Leute fangen an, plötzlich zu verschwinden. Widerwillig wird Aoba immer weiter in die Welt von Rhyme hineingezogen, als das plötzliche Verschwinden von Menschen eskaliert und ihn dazu zwingt, die Wahrheit hinter dem Spiel und die dunklen Geheimnisse, die in Platinum Jail lauern, aufzudecken.
