Nara spiegelt wohl den durchschnittlichen männlichen Anime-Hauptcharakter wider: Ruhig, schüchtern, gutherzig, verliebt in die Protagonistin - aber so richtig kommt Nara nie zum Zug. Denn Nara ist nur Nebencharakter. Wärend er am Anfang noch viel mit eingebaut wird, unter anderem auch Tenma das Schwimmen beibringt, so kommt ihm Harima doch immer wieder in die Quere, und Nara verzieht sich mehr und mehr in die hinteren Reihen - bis er letztendlich mit Nishimoto und Yoshidayama das »Trio der Hoffnungslosen« gründet.
