Herr Komatsu ist Hachikos Vater, der gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Natsuko und seinen beiden anderen Töchtern Nami und Nao zusammen lebt. Herr Komatsu scheint eigentlich ein sehr strenger, wenn auch sehr liebervoller Vater zu sein. Er sorgt sich um das Wohlergehen seiner nach Tokyo ausgereisten Tochter Hachiko mehr als seine Ehefrau und hatte immer ein kritisches Auge auf Hachis Verehrer geworfen.
