Vor Akina Hiizumi war sein Großvater derjenige, der die sogenannte magische Fähigkeit »Tuning« benutzen konnte, um damit Sakura-shin und seine Bewohner zu beschützen und kämpfte damals Seite an Seite mit Hime Yarizakuras Großmutter. Als seinen Nachfolger schon auserkoren, lehrte er seinen Enkel die Handhabung des »Tuning« und bereitete ihn auf seine spätere Berufung vor. Maßnahmen, die bei Akina große Bestürzung auslösten, denn andere Lebewesen zu töten und sei es Youkais, so wie es sein Großvater nannte, käme ihm damals nie in den Sinn.
