Shunpei ist ein liebevoller Vater, der in seinem Verhalten aber manchmal etwas kindisch und unreif wirkt. Seine Kinder Yori und Iku sind für ihn das Wichtigste in seinem Leben und so versucht er auch bis zuletzt Yori von seinem Vorhaben abzubringen, dabei wird er aber immer wieder von seiner Frau ausgebremst und akzeptiert schließlich, wenn auch schweren Herzens, die Entscheidung seines Sohnes.
Wie seine Frau ahnt auch er nichts von der verbotenen Liebe seiner Kinder.
