Frederic Klein rettete einst Largo im ersten Krieg das Leben und beide waren seitdem eng miteinander befreundet. Hier lernten sie auch die jetzige Befehlshaberin der Miliz, Eleanor Varrot, kennen und lieben. Im Gegensatz zu Largo hatte er allerdings den Mut ihr seine Liebe zu gestehen - Largo wiederum sah für sich keine Chance, da sein Freund durch Gerissenheit und seine charmante Art bestach - und kamen schließlich zusammen. Jedoch starb er kurz darauf im Einsatz.
