Gemeinsam mit seinem beiden Kumpel Matsuda und Masahiko Umezawa lauert der Delinquent Takemura nach der Schule dem Weichei Ippo Makunouchi auf, um ihn seine tägliche Tracht Prügel zu erteilen. Trotz dieser Schadtaten sind die drei im Innern doch nicht ganz so üble Kerle, da sie sich für den Boxsport interessieren und Ippo nach dem Erlangen seiner Profiboxlizenz sogar unterstützen. Es tut ihnen zwar unendlich leid, was sie ihm in der Vergangenheit angetan haben, doch keiner der drei kann sich so wirklich bei ihm entschuldigen. Nichtsdestotrotz besuchen Takemura, Umezawa und Matsuda fast jeden Kampf ihres neuen Helden und feuern ihn nach besten Kräften an.
