Tomoe Yukishiro wurde 1846 in Edo (Tokyo) geboren und lebte während der Bakumatsu-Zeit in Kyoto. Sie ist die Verlobte von Akira Kyosato, den sie über alles liebt. Doch eines Nachts wird ihr Verlobter vom Attentäter Himura Battousai ermordet.

Tomoe schwor Rache und trifft eines Nachts, eher durch Zufall, auf Battousai, als dieser gerade ein Attentat verübt. Er verschont ihr Leben und sie bleibt sie vorerst in seiner Nähe, um ihrer Rache näher zu kommen.
