Er und Siegfried Kircheis kennen sich schon seit Jahren und sind daher, auch wenn sie sich lange nicht mehr gesehen haben, noch gut miteinander befreundet. Niemals hätte Martin gedacht, dass Siegfried dem Militär beitreten würde, denn er ist eigentlich viel zu gutherzig, um andere Menschen zu verletzen. Selbst muss er aber auch bald zum Militär, davor fürchtet er sich, denn in dem Bereich fehlt ihm jegliches Talent, weswegen er davon ausgeht, bald schon zu sterben.
