Tani ist der Vater der kleinen Akiko. Er hat eine eigene Firma und deswegen nur wenig Zeit für seine Tochter. Sein Haus wird von einem großen Hund bewacht wird, der normalerweise auf alle Fremden sehr allergisch reagiert und wie wild herumbellt. Als seine Tochter entführt wird, reagiert er sehr besorgt und ruft in seiner Not Kogorou Mori an, da er wohl Shin’ichi Kudou nicht erreichen konnte.
