Phalanx ist eine griechische Kriegsstrategie, bei der das Leben des einzelnen in den Hintergrund gestellt wird und es rein um die Formation geht. Dicht an dicht ziehen die Krieger hinaus in die Schlacht und sobald einer getötet wird, nimmt ein anderer von hinten seinen Platz ein. Diese Taktik war es, die diesem Mutanten, diesem Zellhaufen seinen Namen gab. Hier sind ebenfalls Zellen dicht an dicht gebaut, sodass es schwer ist, ihn zu zerstören. Doch besteht dafür eigentlich auch kein Bedarf, denn dieser Prototyp den Yoshizumi geschaffen hat, kann aus seiner Nährflüssigkeit nicht raus, da sein Körper nicht in der Lage ist, Eiweiß zu verarbeiten. Geschweige denn, dass Phalanx ein Gehirn hat, mit dem es denken könnte.
