Box Laff nimmt auf der Bardanos den Platz an der Seite von Kapitänin Bainas als Zweiter Offizier ein – ein in Gefechtssituationen erfahrener Mann, sowohl beim Kampf der Sandschiffe gegeneinander als auch zu lande mit der Waffe in der Hand. Er macht zwar auf den ersten Blick einen draufgängerischen Eindruck, entgegen dem ist er aber ausgesprochen vernünftig – wenn Bainas ein riskantes Manöver startet, wird ihm trotzdem nicht unwohl, da er ihr bedingungslos vertraut, sowohl als Mensch als auch in ihren Fähigkeiten als Captain.
