Der gebürtige Kalifornier Rivalz ist ein stets gut gelaunter Junge und ein Mitglied des Schülerrats der Ashford Akademie. Als Lelouchs Freund und Begleiter kutschiert er diesen mit seinem Motorrad herum, hauptsächlich aber zu Schachspielen mit gelangweilten Adeligen. Rivalz arbeitet außerdem noch in einer Bar.

Der 17-Jährige ist heimlich in Milly Ashford verliebt, was öfters angedeutet wird. Jedoch kann er ihr seine Gefühle nicht gestehen, da die Schülerin zum einen wenig Interesse zeigt und zum anderen ihrer Familie zuliebe mit dem Adeligen Lloyd Asplund verlobt ist.
