Einer Legende nach gibt es in ihrem Dorf einen Phönix, der einem ewiges Leben schenken kann, wenn man dessen Blut trinkt. Miriam glaubt felsenfest an diese Legende, weil ein Verwandter von ihr von diesem Blut trank und inzwischen fast 200 Jahre alt ist. Den Vogel kann man auch sehen, doch ist es nicht leicht, an ihn heranzukommen, was sie jedoch nicht daran hindert, einen Weg zu suchen. Von dem Blut erhofft sie sich nicht nur ewiges Leben, sondern auch Wohlstand, denn es gibt einige Menschen, die für ein ewiges Leben Unsummen zahlen würden.
