Jiro ist ein recht egozentrischer Mann, der stets nur das eigne Wohlergehen im Blickfeld hat. Es stimmt zwar, dass er einen Raubzug mit seinen Partnern begangen hat und sich auch dazu bereit erklärt hat, die Beute mit ihnen zu teilen, doch als sie sich auf der Flucht befinden und auf hoher See förmlich stecken bleiben, offenbart er, dass ihm das eigene Überleben am wichtigsten ist und ohne zu zögern auf die anderen verzichten könnte.
