Zu ihren Großeltern mütterlicherseits pflegt Tsugumi ein sehr gutes Verhältnis und kommt sie des Öfteren besuchen. So etwa am Todestag ihrer Mutter, wo sie dann gemeinsam ihre Zeit verbringen und zu ihrem Grab gehen. Meistens ist Hajime an diesem Tag abwesend, trotzdem kann man das Verhältnis von ihm zu den Eltern Ayumis nicht zwangsläufig als gestört oder angespannt bezeichnen. Sie sind nämlich sehr freundliche Personen und geben Hajime auch nicht in irgendeiner Weise Schuld am Tod ihrer Tochter.
