Wie nur wenige andere Schülerinnen der Seio Mädchenschule genießt Utano den Respekt und die Hochachtung ihrer Mitschülerinnen, was umso bemerkenswerter ist, da sie gerade einmal in ihrem zweiten Jahr der Highschool ist. Ihre Eleganz und Perfektion in vielen Bereichen ist das Ergebnis unzähliger Jahre überaus strenger Erziehung durch ihre Eltern, welche ihr jedoch auch kaum Möglichkeit zur freien Entfaltung gegeben haben. So ist Utano nicht nur eine recht begabte Violinistin, sondern auch die Vorsitzende des Ikebana-Clubs und zeigt allgemein großes Interesse an Pflanzen. Anders als ihre Freundin Awayuki, kommt sie auch ausgesprochenen gut mit Chihaya aus und lädt diesen des Öfteren in ihren Club ein. Vor allem die Tatsache, dass ihr dieser keinerlei Sonderbehandlung zukommen lässt, ist ihr sichtlich angenehm.
