In seiner Highschool-Zeit und Anfangsphase als König der Homura zeigte sich Mikoto recht desinteressiert an andere und bevorzugte es, für sich zu sein als in Gesellschaft anderer Menschen, wobei Izumo eine große Ausnahme darstellte, auch wenn er mit ihm nur wenige Worte wechselte. In der Zeit machte ihm Totsuka, damals noch in der Middle School, der unbedingt seinem Clan beitreten wollte, besonders viel Ärger und rein oberflächlich zeigte Mikoto sich genervt von ihm, aber durch seine eher unbeholfene Art machte er, mehr oder weniger gewollt, deutlich, dass er sich doch um ihn sorgt.
