Kalna Yonsa ist der Vater von Balsa und war der Hofarzt des Königs von Kanbal.

Seine nahe Position zum König wurde ihm jedoch zum Verhängnis, indem er vom jüngeren Bruder des Königs, Rogsam, erpresst wurde: Kalna sollte den König mit Gift umbringen, andernfalls würde seine Tochter getötet werden.
In seiner Verzweiflung wandte er sich an seinen einzigen Freund am Hofe, Jiguro Musa und bat ihn darum, sich um seine Tochter zu kümmern.
